La Gaviota Polar presenta una distribución circumpolar y es un visitante raro en la Península Ibérica durante los meses de invierno, especialmente en la costa cantábrica y Galicia, en esta Comunidad es un invernante regular pero siempre en reducido número. La gran mayoría de aves que alcanzan la Península Ibérica son jóvenes o también llamados de primer invierno. En los últimos años se han comenzado a ver aves de la subespecie "kumlieni", predominado es este caso también aves de primer invierno

The Iceland Gull has a
circumpolar distribution and is a rare visitor to the Iberian Peninsula during
the winter months, especially in the Cantabrian and Galician coast, in this region
is a regular winter visitor but always in small numbers. Most of the birds that
reaching the Iberian Peninsula are young or so-called first winter. In recent
years we start to see birds of the subspecies "kumlieni" and also most of the birds are first winter.
